The Rainmaker - Fire of Zolo

PART-I

It was a critical phase in the rise of human consciousness when ancient men learned to exploit the secrets of nature. They started seeing patterns in the world; from days and nights to seasons, the movement of stars, weather, and human life itself. They observed that nature works in cycles. Every beginning is followed by an end, and every end leads to a new beginning. They started symbolizing nature and its repeating cycles.

However, this consciousness was not risen in every human being. In fact, most of the early people were unaware of these truths and were almost unable to comprehend the reason behind things. Only a small fraction was receptive to these new ideas and they were considered being crazy by others for having these very kind of strange ideas.

For the common folks, there was no pattern, it was just as it was.

The concept of an almighty creator God was not yet fully developed in that primitive human culture but mankind has started to believe, that there was a supernatural power somewhere in the universe that was affecting their lives. Rainmaker was someone who studied these supernatural powers and harnessed them to generate favours for their community.

Rainmaker is a historical figure who used to contemplate weather and cause rains. He can be imagined as the prophet of ancient humanity. The only difference between a Rainmaker and modern-world prophets is that the Rainmaker didn't claim to be the vessel of Gods in our world. They never said they were chosen especially by the Gods. To be a Rainmaker means to embark yourself on a life long journey with the forces of the universe. Rainmaker was the one who constantly seeks to know the mind of God, through contemplation of nature. That is the first test on the way to become a Rainmaker.

Zolo was the oldest village in the land of pines. There was an old Rainmaker in the village of Zolo. The Rainmaker was called Zol, which meant the fire of the village. Zol was the one, who had served this village and many other villages, for more than 5 decades. He observed the patterns of nature, the phases of the Sun and Moon, the movements of wind, the moisture of soil and used his findings to guide the villagers about the right time of sowing and harvesting the crops, and warned them about the rains and droughts.

Zol was mysteriously introverted and always favoured the unpopular opinions. He lived his life as an outsider, in isolation and solitude.

Zol believed that Rainmaker's primary duty was to accumulate knowledge of nature, its patterns and its cycles, and pass that knowledge to coming generations through fables and stories. He has discovered a few symbols that were manifested out with the nature and universe. The circle was his most favourite of symbols as it was most importantly featured in all the cosmic entities like Sun & Moon.

Now, Zol was quite old and he had to retire from the his duties of rainmaker and search and appoint for a new Rainmaker to serve the village. He had the responsibility of searching for a candidate, a student who would be the next Rainmaker of Zolo. Zol would teach and train him with all his knowledge and wisdom. It was a custom that would keep the fire of the village, alive.

Zol knew one such student, Ekim was his name. Zol has known Ekim since he was a child and has seen him grow into an adult before his eyes.

Once Ekim has asked him, "How do you make Rains, Zol?"

"When you understand that everything comes around in a circle, only then you can rise up the levels of supernatural."
